Upcoming Neighborhood Events in 2010

- Free Summer Concerts in Matthews Park - Rain or Shine!

We moved the show inside the park building for first concert on July 25-- it might have been cloudy outside, but Rahma Ruuxi and her band and all those people dancing lit the place up! (See some video here.) Thanks also to the Eritrean Youth Group YPFDJ for their inspired and informative presentation of Eritrean history, fashion, and dance!

You don't want to miss the next show in the series, coming up

Monday, August 2, 6:30 pm
On the grassy hill behind the tennis courts

featuring Beytubekii - popular and traditional Oromo music and dance

Bring a blanket and some snacks, and enjoy a night of music in the park!

In case of rain, the show will go on in the park building.

Mark your calendar for the last concert in the series:

Saturday, September 25, 1:00 pm
featuring Teshome Asseged Yimer - popular and traditional Ethiopian songs

These concerts are made possible by a Neighborhood Partnerships Initiative Grant from the University of Minnesota’s Center for Urban and Regional Affairs

- National Night Out is Tuesday, August 3

National Night Out is coming soon--if your block does an event every year or if you’re thinking of doing a gathering for the first time, NNO is a fun way to get together and enjoy a summer night with all your neighbors.

If you are planning an event, SNG has received gift certificates from several local businesses to pass out to block parties, and we want to get them out to you. It doesn't matter if you registered with the city to block your street or not, as long as you're having a party, we've got some goodies for you.

Contact Mike Rollin at the SNG by Wednesday, July 28, so we can coordinate sending the packets out to your block party.

- Hennepin County Household Hazardous Waste Collection
Saturday, July 31, 9:00 am-1:00 at Anne Sullivan School, 3100 E. 28th St.

For a list of materials accepted and other venues, visit http://www.hennepin.us/collectionevents.
