For many years, Seward residents have joined together in the interest of our natural environment. Ongoing projects serve the goal of protecting the Mississippi River bluff, protecting our lakes from pollution, and raising awareness of dangers in our air and soil. From community gardens to compost education and alternative power sources, the Environment Committee has always worked hard together to improve our quality of life. MeetingsCommittee meetings are normally held at 7 PM on the second Monday of the month at the Matthews Center, 2318 29th Ave. S. Current projectsDual Sort Recycling Pilot Program This pilot, which started on March 29, will switch the city’s current “multi-sort” recycling system to a “dual sort” recycling collection program. With only two recycling bins to fill instead of eight, over the twelve-month span of this project the amount of recyclable material collected could increase by an estimated fifty percent (about fifty tons). Approximately 700 homes and 2000 residents in Seward are in the pilot area. Please check your mail for an invitation to participate in the pilot program. You must select a container option and mail a card back to the city indicating you will participate. If you have any questions, contact Minneapolis Solid Waste and Recycling Customer Service at (612) 673-2917. To see a map of the program area in Seward, click here.
