Block clubs are where Seward’s Small-Town-Vibes-in-the-Big-City feel comes to life through neighborly connections close to home. Seward block clubs are unique from the blocks outlined by the Crime Prevention Department of MPD. Each block club is uniquely shaped and has grown from organic neighbor-to-neighbor connection; sometimes a single block club is comprised of multiple blocks.

This printable zine walks you through the basics of starting a community on your block, from the first conversation with a neighbor to planning and running your first event. Print it, share it, or pass it along to a neighbor who’s ready to get something started. It’s designed as a simple, low-pressure guide, no experience organizing anything required.

How to use it: Print a single copy, follow the folding instructions, and use it yourself as a step-by-step planning guide for your first gathering. If you’re feeling extra neighborly, print a few copies and drop them in free libraries, leave them at a local business (with permission!!), or bring them to a porch conversation.

Block Diary

This printable booklet gives your block club a shared, diary-style way to document activities and attendees over time. Instead of scattered notes or photos that get lost, a Block Diary creates a lasting, collaborative record your block can look back on and build from.

How to use it: Print the booklet and bring it to your next gathering. Pass it around or leave it somewhere accessible so neighbors can sign their name, leave a drawing, and/or write down any memories worth keeping. Over time, it becomes a shared story of your block.

Bring your completed Block Diaries to our Annual Meeting for a Neighborhood-wide recognition of your block! Email admin@sng.org ahead of time so we may be prepared.

Get Together Ideas

• Hobby Swap: Bring hobby equipment or supplies to trade with the group. You decide if it’s forever, or just temporary.
• Bike tune-up party: Ideally outside, neighbors can help each other by sharing tools and skills for bike maintenance.
• Creative Taco night: Everyone prepares an individual topping. Coordinate ingredients, or choose to surprise each other.
• Skill share: Invite your neighbors to teach a small skill to the group. Do it once, or make it a tradition!
• Recipe cook-off: Everyone makes the same recipe. Feeling competitive? Pick a winner.
