DESCRIPTION:Join Seward Neighborhood Group for a family-friendly neighborhood celebration in Matthews Park! \n1-3 PM \nWe will plan to be outside of Matthews Rec Center with meet & greet opportunities to learn about local organizations\, and SNG’s own committees. Always thought about joining a committee\, but didn’t know how to participate? Come meet our Community Engagement\, Community Development\, Environment\, and History Committees! Leave with an SNG shirt or tote bag for the price of a sliding scale donation to SNG. We will also be selling copies of the “People’s History of Seward” for $25\, via cash\, check\, or Venmo inside the Rec Center. \nOn the four-square court we will be hosting a Garden Tool Swap. Plants\, trimmings\, seeds\, leftover soil are all welcome! All remaining items will be donated to local groups with gardening programs. \nOver by the wading pool\, we will have live performances by local music groups\, and a dance workshop from the Somali Museum. Bring a lawn chair and hangout with an ice cream sandwich! \nWe have prepared a scavenger hunt for Matthews Park\, with prizes being temporary tattoos! The Rec Center will provide sports equipment for neighbors to organize their own pick-up activities. \nInside the Rec Center we will have a silent auction\, featuring prizes from local artists and businesses\, with bidding closing at 3pm. Use this link to view our silent auction. \nStarting at 3 PM \nWe will move inside for SNG’s Annual Meeting. Committees will briefly share the successes of Seward Neighborhood Group over the past year and announce winners of Seward’s Small Grants Program. The annual meeting will conclude with electing new members to the Board of Directors. SUMMARY:Let off some STEAM: Writing Our Collective Joy
DESCRIPTION:We look to art in times of distress for comfort\, rage\, joy… anything really that brings us closer to a deeper understanding about injustice\, resistance\, and solidarity. \nIn this generative workshop\, we will write to help clarify times that often feel beyond comprehension\, with exercises to explore and express both our individual and collective anger and joy. We will use our writing as windows into protest and deepening the connections with our neighbors. \nNo prior writing experience is necessary. Simply bring a pen and paper\, or your preferred writing tools. Note: I will try to make this as accessible to as many ages as I can\, but will be best suited for ages 13+. \nBio: Hannah Gregory is a trans\, queer writer\, Seward resident\, and an MFA in Creative Writing candidate at the University of Minnesota. DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER!!! Join us for our first River Clean up of the year! We’ll be at Mississippi River Gorge to clean up trash and help our river stay beautiful and healthy on Saturday\, March 11th from 10am to noon.  This is a family-friendly event providing an excellent opportunity to get outside and work together to help improve this treasured area. \nTo participate\, show up at 10am and noon at East 36th Street & West River Parkway.  Look for the table near the parking lot– we’ll provide all clean up materials\, including vests\, trash bags\, gloves\, but if you have your own equipment\, bring it!  Be sure to dress for the weather (layers!) and wear appropriate shoes.
