SUMMARY:Remember and Reflect: Street Art Boards From the George Floyd Uprising
DESCRIPTION:Becketwood will host a free outdoor exhibit of the street art boards that were created during the uprising following the killing of George Floyd. The boards are provided by Save the Boards Minneapolis whose founder\, Kenda Zellner-Smith\, will give a presentation at 12:30pm. \nSave the Boards’ vision is to uplift local artists and serve as a safe space for community education\, reflection\, and storytelling\, allowing viewers to connect with art through their own experiences\, voices\, and personal journeys. The band Brass Solidarity\, which was founded in 2021 in response to the movement for Black lives\, will also perform. This event is an initiative of Becketwood\, a welcoming 55+ cooperative community located on 12 acres across from the Mississippi River.

DESCRIPTION:The SNG History Committee is sponsoring a showing of a film on the growth and development of the Farmer/Labor political movement in Minnesota. The documentary\, “Farmer/Labor Movement: A Minnesota Story\,” will be shown at 7:00 p.m. at Matthews Center and is free. Seward resident\, Tom Beer\, who was involved in the production of the film\, will introduce the showing and answer any questions after the program. If you have a copy of the book “A People’s History of the Seward Neighborhood\,” you can read about Seward’s connections to this story in Chapter 13\, as well as come to understand the importance of the “FL” in “DFL” and Seward’s important role in the political party which would represent Minnesota for much of the 20th Century.

Our goal is to create and facilitate a healing space for BIPOC community members where our joys\, struggles\, expression\, and ways of being are not just welcome\, but centered; an environment where BIPOC can be their full\, authentic selves without fear. \nWe meet every fourth Tuesday of the month at the Ivy Arts Building. This space is only for Black\, Indigenous\, People of Color.  \nThis Tuesday we will experience a bodywork session from the Oshun Center for Intercultural Healing with food from India Kutir.
