We’ve rounded up trusted local resources to help our Seward neighbors find what they need. Don’t see what you’re looking for? Email us at admin@sng.org and we’ll help point you in the right direction.
Assistance and Mutual Aid
- Community Aid Network MN – A mutual aid site based in the Whittier neighborhood offering food and household necessities.
- Neighbors Helping Neighbors – A metro-wide network connecting people needing support with volunteers for rides and groceries; grew rapidly out of recent community response efforts.
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) – The SNAP Outreach Team at Second Harvest can help. SNAP helps you stretch your food budget and buy healthy food. Support in English and Spanish. Call to see how they can help you at 651-209-7963.
- Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC) – This program provides healthy supplemental foods, nutrition education, and health care referrals to low-income pregnant and postpartum women and to infants and children up to age 5.
- Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) – People over age 60, when signed up, can receive a monthly food package full of nutritious, non-perishable food items.
Food Shelves & Distribution Resources
- City of Minneapolis Food Shelf Map – An interactive map of food shelves throughout the city. Check hours and websites as they are subject to change.
- Soup for You! – Soup for You! operates out of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (2730 E. 31st St., Minneapolis) Monday through Friday from noon to 1pm for lunch, with groceries and produce distributed on Wednesdays.
- Source MN Food Shelf – Free fresh groceries at the Source MN Food Shelf (2609 Stevens Ave, Minneapolis). Walk-ups and drive-ups at the Food Shelf. No ID is required and you do not need to register before coming.
- Second Harvest Heartland – A hunger relief organization that primarily acts as a food bank, one of the nation’s largest, that collects and donates food through a variety of programs and services.
- Minneapolis American Indian Center – serves a large and tribally diverse urban American Indian population in the metro area. They provide culturally relevant meals to elders in the native community and are seeking donations.
- SEWA AIFW Meal and Grocery Delivery – Culturally relevant grocery delivery for seniors.
