General Resources

City of Minneapolis – Owning a Home – Resource directory for home improvement, homeownership, and mortgage financing programs.
Homeowner Resource Guide – Resource directory of local organizations that offer various home improvement and repair programs.
Minnesota Housing – State agency that works with local lenders to ensure all Minnesotans have access to safe and affordable housing, including emergency loans, first-time homebuyer programs, and foreclosure prevention.
Minneapolis Public Works – Garbage removal, recycling, yard waste, parking, sewer maintenance, sidewalks, snow removal, storm and surface water management, street sweeping.

Maintenance & Repair Resources

Hennepin County Healthy Homes – Loans for home repairs and maintenance projects, and help with asthma triggers and lead paint.
Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) Home Loan Programs – Low interest home improvement loan programs.
Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches – Helps seniors and people with disabilities with painting their homes and other indoor and outdoor handy work.
Longfellow Plan Book – A remodeling plan book for Bungalows and other small homes by architect Robert Gerloff, originally produced by the Longfellow Community Council.
Hearts and Hammers – Assistance with exterior work for homeowners (60+, disabled, or veterans) who are physically and financially unable to maintain their property.
Rebuilding Together Minnesota – Volunteers provide home safety and fall prevention for low income, seniors and disabled. Free basic home repairs and modifications on a volunteer basis.
Habitat ReStore – Home improvement outlet that provides low cost paint, home furnishings, and building supplies.
Minnesota Tool Library – Low-cost borrowing and access to tools, plus workshops and classes.
Winter Storm Safety Guide – City of Minneapolis Office of Emergency Management fact sheet on preparing your home, car, and small business for winter storms and extreme cold.

Sustainability Resources

Sustainable Resources Center – Nonprofit dedicated to advancing healthy homes and energy efficiency: homes that are safe, energy efficient, have clean indoor air, and are free of excess moisture, mold, toxins, and pests.
Home Energy Squad (CEE) – A professional in-home energy assessment with on-the-spot installs like LED bulbs, weather-stripping, and efficient showerheads, offered jointly by Xcel Energy and CenterPoint Energy.
Minnesota Weatherization Assistance Program – Free home energy upgrades for income-eligible households, reducing energy bills by an average of 20-30%.
Xcel Energy Solar*Rewards – A 10-year incentive program paying homeowners for the solar energy their system produces, with enhanced incentives for income-qualified households.
Community Solar Garden Program – Subscribe to a share of a local solar garden and receive monthly bill credits, a good option for homeowners whose roofs aren’t suited for panels.
City of Minneapolis Green Cost Share – Solar – Program providing financial incentive to encourage the building of renewable solar energy throughout the City of Minneapolis.
Minneapolis Homes – City program for buying, fixing, and building affordable homes in Minneapolis, including the acquisition and rehab of formerly vacant properties (this consolidated the former Vacant Housing Recycling Program in 2020).

Energy Cents Coalition – Electrical energy assistance and audits.
Community Action Partnership of Hennepin County – Grants with no repayment for qualifying low income homeowners.
Project Pride in Living – Home financing and repair programs, housing and career readiness workshops and classes.
Minnesota Homeownership Center – Network of free homeownership advisors to provide guidance about your options in multiple languages.
City of Lakes Community Land Trust – A nonprofit, community-based organization that works to provide permanently affordable homeownership opportunities (now includes the former Neighborhood Housing Services of Minneapolis, which merged into CLCLT in 2015).

Transitional Housing Resources

HelpMeConnect – Transitional Housing Programs – The Minnesota Department of Health’s directory of transitional housing programs and support for individuals and families.
Hope Street Shelter – Housing and support for youth and young adults experiencing homelessness.
Housing Info Line (Lutheran Social Service) – Provides housing and support to adults, families, and veterans experiencing chronic homelessness.

Senior Resources

Minnesota Aging Pathways (formerly Senior Linkage Line) – Assists seniors and disabled persons in finding any services they need.
Senior Community Services – Provides chore services including housekeeping, lawn mowing, snow removal and minor home repair work, safety checks and technology support for homeowners 60+.
