Story Quilt Re-Hanging

Earlier this century, residents of Seward Tower West along with others in the neighborhood crafted a Story Quilt focusing on their journeys to the Seward Towers. Each woman created two storytelling quilt blocks using silk screened photos from their lives. It also served as a more effective way for English language learning than a formal classroom and provided white retired-elders in the neighborhood who were lonely to have company. It allowed for rich cross-cultural understanding.
The quilt was shown in the May 2006 “Stories in the Cloth” show at the Textile Center. It was created in 2004 in a series of workshops led by Doroth Mayer and photographed by Dawn Vogel.
During the major renovation of the Seward Towers West Community Room several years ago, the quilt was taken down for safe keeping. It’s time to return the Quilt to the West Community Room.
Join us for a celebration of Seward’s Cross-Cultural History in the Community Room at Seward Towers West.
