Learn about the Performers

Van Nixon Trio

Van first studied classical music and opera at Simpson College in Indianola, IA, then moved to the Twin Cities in Minnesota, where he has performed professionally for close to 40 years.  He is recognized as a gifted vocal artist, whether bringing his unique gospel style to local churches, singing Bill Withers and James Taylor covers in local coffee shops and restaurants, or bringing fans to their feet as lead vocalist in reggae dance shows.

Performing from 11:30am – 12:30pm

THE CULT OF PERCOLATION

When David Bowie, Tina Turner, and Black Sabbath came blaring on sub-space frequencies, Mary Allen and her Cult of Percolation took their message to heart. They donned their most convincing skin-suits, hopped a light-speed saucer, and arrived on our planet to make life on Earth more bearable.

Their first Terran appearance was at least ten years ago in a Minneapolis living room. They were quickly embraced by their Earth hosts and became known for wild, sweaty, nocturnal funk, soul, and most of all, rock n’ roll. Mary Allen is an unslowing force, writhing in rapture, while her Cult percolates in celestial orbit.

Performing from 1 – 2pm

MAURICE JACOX & THE WE STILL R BAND

“Is he an R&B screamer? An intimate lounge crooner? The sexy sax man from Willie & the Bees and the Butanes? The singer-actor who staged a Nat King Cole tribute show? The classical wannabe doing “Besame Mucho” with an orchestra?

An electric flute player in the Electric Flag? He is all of the above.”

— Jon Bream, The Star Tribune

Performing from 2:30 – 3:45pm
